Facial Hair Removal
Threading: Face * Removes unwanted facial hair from skin that is too sensitive for laser or
waxing. * Pulls hair at the root by using a twisted piece of thread. * No chemicals are used, there's no way you'll
have a reaction, and it only takes about 15 minutes to get both brows done. * Threading only works on flat surfaces, it's
too difficult to maneuver around areas like your bikini line and knees. This procedure is not recommended for anyone
with bad acne. Since the string is basically dragged over the skin, it could irritate severe acne, causing it to rupture.
(For people with serious acne, electrolysis is recommended, since it can be done one hair follicle at a time.) * Pain:
little to none. * Approximately $45 for a full face and eyebrow.
Tweezers Epilator: Shaping eyebrows and removing
facial hair: * Electric current to remove hair which is pulled at the root. * New growth is not visible for several
weeks after treatment. * Impractical for large areas, because it is such a slow process. * Can leave the skin sore and
open to infection.
* Alternative: Hair Bleaches Unwanted hair can be made less visible through bleaching. Bleaching
does not remove hair, it allows the hair to blend in. Bleaching works well on hair that is not thick or long. Hydrogen peroxide
is the active ingredient in most over-the-counter bleaches. The disadvantages of bleaching include: 1. Skin irritation. 2.
Bleaches contain harsh chemicals. 3. Bleaching may also discolor the skin. 4. Pruritus, the medical word for itch. 5.
The contrast of bleached hair against tanned or naturally dark skin. 6. Repeated bleaching may make hair brittle and actually
break off some hairs. 7. Reports exist of generalized:
1. Urticaria, the medical word for hives. 2. Asthma, trouble breathing. 3. Syncope,
the temporary loss of consciousness due to a sudden decline in blood flow to the brain. (Presyncope means a person feels faint,
dizzy, or lightheaded) 4. Shock in reaction to the persulfate activator added to boost the effect of hydrogen peroxide
bleach.
